Vanessa Van Basten - Ruins: Sketches and Demos CD <p>'Godfather', 'China 2999', 'Sketch 07' and 'Epic Victor' are home recorded demos of never released songs from the ‘Swedenborg’ era. Just expect the same old dear drum machines, the epic melodies and the crushing, digital guitar sound of our well known effort from 2007. Then we have '27 Bricks of Our Future', a demo song written after the release of 'Psygnosis EP', as well as a primitive version of 'L'Uomo che Comprava il Tempo'. There’s two outtakes from the sessions of our second album ‘Closer to the Small/Dark/Door’, named 'Eldorado' (this one often played live during 2009-2010) and a segment of 'Cholinergic', a Swans-esque coda introduced by the cold and atmospheric drone 'Wien'. 'All Cats Are Graves' is our first attempt to formally tribute The Cure back in 2011, an electro-darkwaving ballad with a very BAD ending. The song 'Arbeit' comes from the ‘Closer…’ recording sessions too but it’s a collaboration track featuring bass from our analog synth player Mathias Pandora and drums from Fabio Cuomo, now in Mope and Eremite. Just imagine Ulan Bator making a cover of Burning Witch. This song is introduced by a very lo-fi live recording named 'Lapsteel Intro', the song we used to play as a warm up for gigs that someone could easily remember. A super-shoegazing demo version of 'Odyssey Song' (from the split with HMBSM) will crack your minds in waves of light. The album ends with a song recorded in 2013 (same sessions), a funny attempt to make a cover version of Dead Can Dance ‘Advent’.</p>
